Geocache Description:


The cache is hidden opposite the old and new Mount Eden Prison, Boston Road, Mt Eden.

The old prison is shown in the Hunt for the Wilderpeople, towards the end of the movie.

A local landmark, full of history, but also menacing, built to fill you with fear and dread.

“Trees. Birds. Rivers. Sky / Running with my Uncle Hec / Living forever”




The old prison is no longer in use, replaced by the nearby modern buildings. Over 160 years old, plans may include a possible tourist attraction for its future? at the present time the prison has been "mothballed" but maybe re-opened if extra prison capacity is required.

Due to its location stealth will be required, look for the power pole, the GPS bounced a bit.

Remember there is a BONUS cache.
