A group of Westies are in the Bay of Islands for the weekend. We are hoping that things will have quietened down for everyone and that the weather is settled.
The plan is for an optional overnight stay in tents, and hopefully get to meet other cachers.
Date: Saturday 4th March 2017
Time: 12.00 - 12.30 pm (The Explore boat leaves Paihia 10.30 am)
Location: Cable Bay campsite, Urupukapuka Island (From Otehei Bay 15 minute walk over the ridge)
Transport:
- Explore has a regular service to the Island (adult return $35), no extra charge for next day pick up. Click here to find our more.
- Get together as a group and arrange a water taxi to take you to Cable Bay.
- Bring your own boat (10 minutes from Kaimarama Bay boat ramp at end of Rawhiti Road) or kayak
Where to Stay: There are 3 campsites on the Island, Cable Bay (adult $13 night) has been selected due to its size, and proximity to a part of the Island which you might not normally get to visit.
The campsite is split into two zones - Pohutukawa (max 40 people/10 tent sites) and Titoki (max 40 people/10 tent sites)

Limited cellphone coverage on the Island

Russell/Paihia is closest towns for shops and other services

No generators or open fires. Take a gas cooker and gas

Cold water is from a tank - boiling is recommended before drinking
