Originally this area was called L'eau Qui-Court "The water that runs". The name was changed by settlers to KNox County in 1873 after Major General Henry Knox. I think I like the original name better.
L'eau Qui Court, pronounced Low Key Coor, was the French word for "running water." Niobrara was the Native American word for "running water."
