Geocache Description:

A cache in the far western corner of Tyrrel's Wood that's well worth the walk. The woods are a popular destination and have decent, clear paths. Dog walkers are commonplace though, so take care when searching for the cache.

Note: The cache was replaced and moved 84 metres away from its original spot on the edge of the wood in September 2022. The original spot seems to be a popular play site and the box had a number of issues there. The terrain might be a little more difficult, but I'd like to keep this as T2 to make it available to new cachers using the app.

The Woods:
Tyrrel's Wood contains the core of a much larger ancient woodland area at Big Wood, an SSSI. Alder and Oak form the most obvious interest, although many of the oaks were felled before the Woodland Trust stepped in to rescue the woods themselves. The Trust now manages part of the area on the eastern side of the woodlands, but the whole area is open access land.

The woods as a whole could well be wet and muddy at any point - boots of some kind are recommended, although there are areas of boardwalk over the worst mud patches. There are clear paths throughout the woods and you shouldn't need to venture too far from them. There are one or two steep banked sections.

The cache:
From the car park walk north through Big Wood, and head left just after a ditch with a bridge over it. Then keep left along the southern edge of the woodland. Or approach from the north, following the obvious path or on the footpath from the west. You can head back the way you came or follow a route around the wood.

You're looking for a standard regular sized container. You may have to climb over/duck under vegetation. As always, please cover it up well and take care of thorns, thistles, nettles and the usual dangers.
