!Ju the mother of the Khoisan people was a wise and strong woman and she taught her people well. One of her strongest points were that she never shirked from her duties even in the days that she gave birth to the Khoisan people. In the beginning all the Khoisan people were flat chested. This was to ensure that nothing would hinder them when they worked the ground.

This all changed when !Un challenged the process. You see !Un was always fascinated with the world around her and observed all that went on around her. One thing she noticed that in the spring when the Springbuck gave birth, the young ones would get all its needs from the mother. When she looked at her tribe she noticed that the moms relied on animals to provide food for the young ones. After observing this season after season, !Un decided to approach !Ju and ask her about this.

!Ju explained that this was because the Springbuck did not have any support measures and that after giving birth the afterbirth was returned to the ground so that the young Springbuck could grow both strong and have a long life. This explanation satisfied  !Un for a while, but after a while she went back to !Ju and stated to !Ju that she would like to be as independent as the Springbuck.

!Ju thought about this for a while and eventually agreed to it but gave a few conditions:

1. She had to find the dragon plant and crush the leave to make a potion. This would help !Un to provide food for the baby.

2. That she must never fear birth as this was the natural order of life.

3. That she must bury the afterbirth straight after birth to ensure the child will grow strong and old.

So !Un went in search of the dragon plant that grew on the outskirts of Dragon Country being very careful not to enter into the Dragon Country. She took the leaves and created a potion just as !Ju explained and she drank this potion every day. After a few weeks she noticed that as her tummy grew and so did her chest. The other woman in the tribe were curious as to what was happening as they never saw anything like this before.

After time passed !Un realised that it was time to bring the new one into the world. So she went one side of the camp and without assistance and without showing any fear brought forth the newest member of the tribe. After the birth she followed !Ju instructions and returned the afterbirth to the earth. She also managed to feed the young one from herself just like the Springbuck. Soon all the woman followed !Un and drank this potion, and as their tummy’s grew so did their chest. They now stopped relying on the animals to provide nourishment to their new born as they have been able to provide it themselves.

And so till today the Khoisan woman show no fear when it comes to childbirth as they fully understand that this is the natural order of things.  And afterwards they return the afterbirth to the ground in the belief that by doing so, their young one will grow strong and old just like the earth.

This trail is on the Tsitsikamma Striptease River Trail. The owners of the nearby Lodge which maintain this walk has given full permission for the caches to be placed. Also due to the nature and terrain of this walk it is recommended that minors are accompanied by adults. 

1. Due to heavy rains or work in the nearby plantation we never know when the trail will be closed so a phone call is always welcomed. You can phone 042 280 3702

2. Anyone hiking must report to reception to sign the permit (which is free) and they must report back after completing the hike.

3. It is advisable that hikers must wear suitable shoes as some areas are more difficult.

4. You may drink the water from the river as it is safe to drink but it is also recommended that you bring water and refreshments as it is not a short Hike. It can take from a min of 4 Hours of brisk walking without stopping for a swim or looking for the caches.

5. With the trail being called the Striptease Trail please be aware that you may encounter nudity on this trail. For those who are brave and daring and want to engage in nude caching please only do so from the start of the trail and not from the lodge.

6. Photo logs are more than welcome, clothed or unclothed, but please just remember that this is a family activity so if you are daring to pose unclothed please make sure that all private areas are concealed either by the cache or by the natural surroundings.

7. The trail is well marked just follow the blue markings and you won’t get lost.

8. Please remember that this is a nature area so no fires, no pets (unless it’s your spouse), and don’t leave anything behind, not even your spouse.

9. Please be back by dark as we don’t want to send out a search party for you as they tend to party instead of searching for you.
