Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many way-markers along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock.

'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

This is the exact spot where Jock had a fight with Field Cornet Seedling's vicious baboon. The baboon was chained to a post near the store and for entertainment, Seedling would allow dogs to come close to the baboon, which would torment them. The baboon was very cunning and managed to kill every dog that came along, until it met Jock. Jock skilfully managed to outwit and then kill the baboon.
