Izamal was the first city in Mexico to receive the Pueblo Magico designation, reserved for cities, towns and villages with special symbolic features, legends and history.
The city of Izamal is a unique blend of Mayan, Colonial and Modern cultures. It is probably one of the most exiting and interesting places to visit in the Yucatan Peninsula. Cobblestone streets and colonial lampposts complete the scenery. Clean, peaceful and quaint, this is a great town to stroll through. There are Maya pyramids, colonial-style buildings, parks and plazas, horses and buggies, and lots of people-watching.
Izamal is also home of Kinich, one of the 10 best restaurants in Mexico, and recognized by the UNESCO for safekeeping Yucatan's food heritage. If you decide to go after this cache, it's definitely worth stopping at Kinich.
The cache is located 40 minutes away from my hometown, which I visit at least twice a year. Geocacher @SeaWhisperer has agreed on providing maintenance if required.
