This cache celebrates our wedding on October 4, 2014. We held the reception at the Finnish Center at Saima Park, which has some amazing trails used for running, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. It is a beautiful location on the outskirts of Fitchburg, not far from downtown and Fitchburg State University. We have included elements of our wedding and Icelend cards, as we honeymooned in the beautiful country of Iceland. The FTF is a choice of a SISU bumper sticker or a wedding candle. SISU is a Finnish word which means "strength, determination, and/or guts."
.The trailhead is located between the pavillion and the summer house near the end of the long driveway. It is a relatively easy hike near a babbling brook and beautiful woods. The gate to Saima may be closed, but you can park outside of the fence and walk through the gate. The Friends of Saima have approved this cache and encourage the use of the trails. The cache itself is located just off the Eric Ahli trail, and should be winter accessible as long as peoplemake sure to carefully return the cache to its location. The trail is used for skiing and snowshoeing in the winter,so please be respectful.
Saima Park is the home of a number of Finnish-themed events throughout the year, including monthly Finnish breakfasts, a trail race in June, and various Finnish festivals. Check out the website at saima-park.org Thank you to the Friends of Saima Park for allowing this cache. Others will be added soon, including one to commemorate the opening of new trails in February 2017.
