Baseball has been an all Crofton sport since the first field was built in 1907.
According to the 2010 census the population of Crofton is 726. Originally the city was platted in 1892. Pioneers were lured to the area by the prospect of a railroad connecting Yankton to Norfolk, going through Crofton. This railroad was promoted by an English man named J. T. M. Pearce and financed by his countrymen. Eventually this railroad fell through and it is said that Mr. Pearce fled to South America because of "shady dealings."
