Geocache Description:

It was the middle of April of 1979, and we were scheduled to attend a church service that evening. My boyfriend decided he wanted a milkshake from The Spinning Wheel in Southside so we headed there first. We were both living in Mountain Brook at the time and would often visit his parent's lake property in Chelsea. After he had his shake and I gave him my company, as I was not hungry at the time, we headed on down the old highway 280 towards his family's lake. This location was a pitstop on the way out of town. You could drive up to the top of the mountain and look over the wooded outskirts of Birmingham. It was a site to be seen. There were picnic tables, I believe, where people would stop and enjoy the scenery.

This is where he proposed to me on that lovely day in April. We missed our church service. He did not have a ring because I told him that was not important to me. However, that requirement changed two days later. We married in 4 months and just celebrated our 37th year of marriage. We now live on his parent's lake and our son was married alongside the water there in 2003. Funny how 280 has changed. Glad to be able to reminisce and share this spot with all you cachers!

This spot now is reserved for the power lines, as you can see, but some people use it as a hangout or a drop-off spot. For the sake of this love story, please carry some trash out with you as you leave. Keep our spot beautiful. Thanks in advance!

The night after placing this cache I returned to double check my coordinates. It was Christmas Eve and there was a heart made of rose petals and candles by the smallest rock. This lovely place is obviously loved by all lovers!

Traveling up to the spot may be tricky with pot holes, but my little car has made it just fine. You are looking for a small camouflaged bison tube.
