Geocache Description:

The Smolenskoye cemetery is a Lutheran cemetery on Dekabristov Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is one of the largest and oldest non-orthodox cemeteries in the city. Until the early 20th century it was one of the main burial grounds for ethnic Germans.



Many famous and outstanding persons were buried here. Some of them:

Moritz von Jacobi - the first successfull inventor of an electric motor

Leonhard Euler - one of the greatest mathematicians in history

Ludvig Nobel - an engineer and a businessman, the older brother of Alfred Nobel (founder of the Nobel Prize)
