This was originally an access road for turf cutting on the bog. This practice came to an end a few years ago. The Knockduff Wind Farm was later constructed and there are now turbines around the road producing green energy. The road is also part of the Duhallow Way walking trail. We like it because it is remote and pretty.
A parking waypoint is provided. It is about a 500m walk from there to the cache. The bog road was once tarred, but it has since fallen into a state of disrepair. We do not recommend driving on it, unless one has a 4x4 maybe.
There is only one drivable road to the parking area, but this is not clear on the various maps. A waypoint is provided showing where to turn off the R579 to be on the right road.
The cache is a small Tupperware container. The bog road can be walked in ordinary shoes. The cache is off to the side though, so boots are recommended if long grass is wet. Phone signal is patchy in the area so downloading the caches beforehand is also recommended.
