Geocache Description:

The cache container is a locally made bamboo type, regular size, container holding a log book, stash note, pencil, a few trinkets and also a couple of local souvenirs in to start off with.

Amed is the commonly referred to name for the coast line that is home to seven fishing villages along a stretch of the East coast of Bali. Amed is itself one of these seven villages along with Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Selang, Banyuning and Aas.

The villages stretch over a 14 kms of coast where you can still enjoy some peace and harmony as well as a taste of what Bali used to be like before the tourism took its strong hold in the south.

The villages have predominately relied on fishing and making salt as their main income although tourism has crept into the mix more recently. Although asphalt was laid on the road in 2000 and telephone lines in 2003, it wasn’t until seven years later that a bridge was built allowing regular access for tourism to the area as the road was regularly washed away during the wet season beforehand.

These towns are now regularly used by visitors as a home base to snorkel in the bays or dive the ship wrecks in the area.  A Japanese wreck at Banyuning can be seen just off shore by snorkelling (as its only about 3 to10 meters deep and just off the shore) or with Scuba gear.  The much bigger USS Liberty just up the coast in Tulamben and is best suited for divers..

The Amed area is famous for its beaches, lined with traditional outrigger fishing boats that make quite a sight to see along the shore line. Just ask one of the local fisherman and for a small fee he’s sure to take you out for a fishing trip at sunrise or sunset or along the coast to one of the beautiful bays for a snorkel.

Bunutan beach, just down from this cache has a very good stretch between Bedulu Resort and Hotel Santai where you can see an eel garden and some beautiful coral, just not so many fish.

The best fish are actually here near GZ, but you won’t see them live as they’re baked in banana leaf with fresh locally grown organic herbs, sensational spices and homemade sambals.

The shore line is quite coarse and made from black volcanic pebbles in some places and a type of black fine sand in others. As you move further east away from Mount Agung the beaches have softer sand and become more of a mid grey-brown in color. The prettiest bays are probably those at Jemeluk and Lipah but the whole stretch of coastline is very attractive.

The cache is looked after by a local guardian who is a good friend of ours. If you have trouble finding the cache feel free to ask the staff inside at and they will be happy to assist you with your hunt.
