Planting a tree is great – anyone can do it, from the youngest to the oldest amongst us. If you come and get involved, it will be a day you’ll remember for a long time and it will be a great reason to come back to the Forest in the months and years to come. You will be able to tell your friends and family “I planted some of those” Everyone’s welcome to get involved – it’s something that we should all do at least once! It’s very easy to take part; stay as long as you like and plant as many trees as you like.
Come to the parking co-ordinates anytime between 10:45am and 2:15pm to catch a free 'magical mystery tour shuttle bus to the planting site. The last bus will return at around 3:20pm. Shuttle buses will run regularly through the day.
We will provide everything you’ll need for a great experience – trees & tools – just wrap up warm, wear something waterproof on your feet and bring lots of enthusiasm and good cheer! Remember to bring gloves, boots, camera and pen!
We will leave a logbook on a table in the tent (please don't confuse it with the volunteer event sign-in sheet!)
You will receive a demo on how to plant the saplings and fit a tree guard to the tree and wooden peg, locate a shovel and mallet (due to demand, please share where possible) and head off towards the planting area which will have rows and rows of wooden pegs and piles of tree guards. Once you have finished planting, please, please, please bring back the supplied shovels and mallets to the demo area for the next person. As the day goes on, the pegs closer to the demonstration will have been planted so you will need to move up and into the planting area to find the next empty peg, which will take you further and further away from the demo area and the marque, so please bear this in mind if you are on a tight schedule or you intend to catch the last bus back!
Our Goal: As a group of geocachers, our aim is to plant together and have a fun experience! This is a great opportunity to teach young ones how to plant trees and the importance it has in our local ecosystem.
Geocaching: Within walking distance of the above parking coordinates is the 'Stewartby Lake' circular walk series which can be done before jumping onto the free bus shuttle or when you get back- so why not plan ahead and make a whole day of it?
We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Make sure you log a note saying "Will Attend" so we can have a good head count for the event. Oh and when you do log 'attended' we would love to know how many trees you have planted in your log and we will add them up. See you on Sunday 12 February 2017!
