This is a simple two stop multi cache in Pacheco Marsh, a preserve saved by John Muir Heritage Land Trust (http://www.jmlt.org/pacheco_marsh.html) a wonderful organization.
Park at the side of the road by a sign that says "Shoreline Access". This area is prone to flooding following significant rains. Also, the walking is extremely muddy in winter months.
The first stop takes you to a memorial cross. I remember reading about this death in the Contra Costa Times. This area was a popular off road motorcyling area. Access was not exactly authorized. Two motorcyclist where traveling this levee top road at night with the lights out when they hit each other head on. One died, he was only 18. As a former young man, we do/did stupid stuff. For me, my reminders are a couple ribs separated from by backbone, two broken ankles (different occassions) from big wall climbing in Yosemite; and a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder from a biking accident (my high tolerance for risk gene must be why Camper248 always invites me on outings where a potential long fall is required). I'm lucky, I'm here to hide this cache. More so I feel sorry for this young man's family, they're the ones who really suffer.
The cache container is at the coordinates below (use the number order of the letters of the alphabet; A=1, B=2, .... Z=26):
N38 2.0AB' W122 5.7CD
A = The sum of the first and last letter of the first name on the front of the memorial cross
B = The third letter of the last name on the front of the memorial cross
C = The bottom letter of the "word" on the side of the memorial cross.
D = The second letter from the bottom of the "word" on the side of the memorial cross.
Check Sum: A + B + C + D = 19
The cache container is a camo-ed plastic "can" about the size of a box of bandaids.
