The cache is located only .15 mile from street parking in Waukesha's River Valley Park, along the Fox River. You'll only need to go 15 to 20 feet into the woods to get to the cache location. There's a great playground at this park in case you want to bring some little ones along.
Did you know that Wisconsin is the birthplace of the world famous Cheesehead hat? That's right - In 1987, an idea was born on the south side of Milwaukee. Ralph Bruno, the “Father of Fromage,” made the very first “cheesehead” hat out of foam while he was cutting up his mother's couch. It quickly became popular, and Bruno started a business on Milwaukee’s south side to sell the wearable foam hats as novelties.
In the beginning the cheesehead hat was not initially about fashion, but a self-deprecating response to those we kindly call the "flat-landers." Riding high from their only Super Bowl victory, fans of Chicago sports began ridiculing citizens of the Dairy State by calling them "Cheeseheads." They probably didn't predict the amount of pride of Wisconsinites and the “cheesy” foam items that would follow.
There are now all kinds of ways for cheesehead fans to express their individuality, from the original cheesehead hat to cheesehead bowties, neckties, crowns, and even underwear.
Cheesehead products are now shipped to all 50 states and to over 30 countries, and it all started here in Wisconsin. The variety of products and people enjoying those products is simply stunning. Some are transplanted Wisconsinites, some dedicated Green Bay Packer fans, and some - simply like cheese. Cheesehead fans are a diverse bunch - all bound together by Wisconsin and the CHEESE!
