le tre strie
I processi alle streghe avvenuti a Cavalese tra il 1501 ed il 1505 sono celebri in tutta la valle e non solo. Numerose furono le donne accusate di stregoneria e bruciate vive dopo il processo.
In particolare negli appunti di don Giorgio Delvai sono raccontate le storie di tre presunte streghe di Carano:
Caterina condannata al rogo e bruciata viva sul Dos Rizzol il 20 marzo 1505 (alcune fonti indicano invece il 30 settembre 1505), fu condannata in base alla pubblica accusa di altre streghe.
Barbara detta “Marostiga” che morì in prigione l’11 marzo 1505 e che sostenne di non essere una strega bensì una guaritrice che ricorreva a rimedi alternativi rispetto alle convenzionali pratiche mediche.
Margherita soprannominata “la Vanzina” messa al rogo il 15 marzo 1505 e che durante il processo ammise ella stessa di essere una vecchia strega.
Le loro ceneri vennero poi gettate nell’Avisio.
La stregoneria ampiamente diffusa anche nella valle di Fiemme fino alla metà del XVIII secolo venne ampiamente combattuta fino all’eccesso. Le streghe erano donne che, secondo chi le accusava, al fine di guarire usavano infusi a base di erbe officinali poco note, o donne troppo belle o levatrici o non frequentatrici della Chiesa o, più semplicemente, persone che infastidivano i paesani e che, non essendo capite, venivano punite con la tortura o con la pena di morte.
I processi venivano tenuti dopo gli interrogatori tenuti dal Vicario Vescovile nelle carceri del Palazzo Vescovile.

The witch trials occurred in Cavalese between 1501 and 1505 are famous throughout the valley and beyond. Many were the women accused of witchcraft and burned alive after the trial.

Caterina condemned to the stake and burned alive on Dos Rizzol March 20, 1505 (some sources indicate instead September 30, 1505), was sentenced according to the prosecution of other witches.
Barbara called "Marostiga" who died in prison on 11 March 1505 that claimed not to be a witch but a healer who resorted to alternative remedies than conventional medical practices.
Margherita dubbed "la Vanzina" burned at the stake 15 March 1505 and that during the trial he admitted herself to be an old witch.
Their ashes were then thrown into the Avisio.
Witchcraft also widely used in the Fiemme Valley until the mid-eighteenth century was largely fought in the extreme. Witches were women, according to those who accused them, in order to heal used infusions made from herbs little known, or too beautiful women or midwives goers or not the Church or, more simply, people who bothered the villagers and that they were punished with torture or the death penalty.
The processes were kept after interrogations held by Vicar Bishop of the Episcopal Palace in prisons.
