Geocache Description:

Methodist, Bottesford

METHODIST, BOTTESFORD

The Primitive Methodist Chapel was built in 1820 and has been in use ever since. The Chapel was used by both Primitive and Wesleyan Methodists until 1845 when the Wesleyan Methodists built their own Chapel in the village.

The Methodist Chapel stood behind a row of cottages until 1930 when they were demolished to provide a small chapel forecourt.

In 1933 both the Primitive and Wesleyan Methodists re-united with the Wesleyan Methodists selling off their church and moving back to The Green.

You will note on the date stone the word Primitive is the only one not painted in to stand out.

The Chapel underwent an extensive renovation in 2004.

The Chapel is currently part of the Grantham and Vale of Belvior Methodist Circuit along with 12 other churches.

The building is a hidden gem and it is worth taking a moment in the surroundings.
