Geocache Description:

No, I don't mean saltines, or the round buttery kind I like to smear peaunutbuttter on. I don't mean the durogotory term for light skinned people either. I'm refering to Florida's first settlers.

Crackers are what most people outside Florida might call cowboys. They got their names from the sound the whip makes as they chase cows out of the forrest and scrub areas. Another name for them was cow hunters. When the first settlers came to Florida, they discovered there were descendants of the cows roaming all over, leftover from the Spanish explorers a couple hundred years earlier.

Well, the settlers also figured out that catching those cows was a great way to make money, or just stay alive. This area has had its share of crackers around for a long time, up to 7 generations now. If you look around, you will see the ranches and cattle, very similar to what it was like a few generations ago.

Incodently, there were more crackers of color, (Black, Hispanic, Native American, and the likes), than there were white people.

Please take a moment to completely zip the baggie shut again, and put the container back where it belongs, with the lid closed tightly. Thanks and have fun!
