Join us on our first cache in trash out event, we have notice a few new cachers out and about and would love to meet old and new faces.
We're sure you have see this stretch of beach and enjoyed a walk here in the past. It saddens us to see the amount of microplastic pollution that gets flushed down our toilets and past our sanitation system. Microplastics – pieces of plastic ranging in size from 5mm to nano proportions – are a key part of the world’s marine litter problem. Primary microplastics include plastics found in personal care and cosmetics products, and pre-production plastic resin pellets. Secondary microplastics are created when larger plastic items break down into smaller pieces. These pieces can enter marine food chains and potentially pose huge risks for the environment and human health. They are easily ingested by fish, mussels and other sea animals. This is what happens to our beaches and then becomes a problem bigger than one person. It should be noted however, that in the long term, what is needed is a shift in the way we think about plastic. We need to stop viewing it as something that can just be thrown away after it has been used, and start viewing it as a valuable resource of which we have only a limited supply. This means that both the production and consumption of plastic must be reduced. The event will be held in the NPNR rain or shine. 8am-10am (low tide is at 10am) 2 hour beach clean up. Plastic bags and disposable gloves will be provide. Afterwards we will take them back to the parking lot, where we've organised to have them removed. THINGS TO BRING: Sun hat,rain jacket,garden gloves, drinking water, coins and trackables to grab or be discovered.Bring along your GPSr there are a lot of fun geocache to find in the area. AFTER: We would like to invite everyone to sit down at Footprints(The Reef Cafe) to discuss future events and CITO areas of interest, Discover Coins and swap cool stories.
