Church Micro 9308...Ash Priors
The church itself is located in the centre of the Ash Priors village and on the outskirts of the Ash Priors nature reserve, the first and largest nature reserve in the Taunton Deane district. The church itself is a beautiful listed building, accessible for all and welcoming all, but it is only unlocked during daylight hours. The village originated in the 17th century, which is potentially when the church was built. If anybody finds any more information on this church I would be happy to include it.
The cache
The cache is not at the headlined coordinates. Instead it can be found through visiting a few locations around the church to work out its final coordinates.
- Upon entering the gates to the graveyard you will notice a bench on the right dedicated to Ted and Winnie. The number of letters in their last name = A
- The number of wooden slats in the back of this bench = BC
- If you proceed around the back of the church you will see a memorial stone attached to the wall for th Skinner family. The number of members in the Skinner family = D. *Read carefully
- If you walk out into the main part of the graveyard you will see a headstone for Bombardier F Cobby of the Royal Artillery. F Cobby died on the EF of August 1941.
The final cache can be found at
N51 03.(A-B)F(D+E)
W003 12.(D+E)C(Dx2)
This cache should not be attempted at night time. The use of torches may spook some of the residents and there have been issues of slate thieves in the area in the past, so walking around the church at night is not advisable.
Parking is limited, but there is space for a few cars on the roadside next to the church. The GZ is a very short walk from the church.
If you liked this cache, be sure to attempt my 'Ranting about Ash Priors' series nearby.
A popular misconception is that a church micro needs to be micro, however the official guidelines state it doesn't, this is a small cache.
Placed with kind permission of the Taunton Deane Borough council.
Please replace exactly as found
Happy Caching
