This old 895 carried frieght from Baytown to New Orleans for many years. It was decommissioned by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1953, and in 1957 the City of Baytown purchased the old locomotive. Today, it sits perched at the exit of one of Baytown's top fishing spots! With a free boat lauch directly into Cedar Bayou, you can find fisherman coming to try their hand at catching their limits in either fresh or saltwater every day. Kayakers are often found launching here because the wildlife and smooth flow of the bayou make for a great day on the water. Fishing from the bank is also permitted!
Once you arrive to the second location, you will find Thompson's Fish Camp!
Thompson's Fish Camp has been serving not only the local community but surrounding cities since 1952. At Thompson's you have it all! The boat ramp, the bait, and the great fishing stories! Many guided fishing trips launch out of Thompson's, and come in within just a few hours with their limits caught. With Cedar Bayou so close, there is salt-water fishing opportunities as well as fresh-water. There is also a chance you will see some of the local shrimpers out making their harvest for the day. Not only is this fish camp locally used, but Matthew McConaughey even comes to fish here! Be sure to take a few deep breaths of the salty breeze, and enjoy your day!
