Geocache Description:

Takrat – v 16. in 17. stoletju – so v Ljubljani obsojencu trli kosti na kolesu in lestvi, jim sekali roke in noge, rezali ušesa in nosove, jih utapljali, sežigali, obglavljali in obešali.

ENG

Under the Ljubljana Castle Hill, not far away from the popular paths up to the Ljubljana Castell, lies a small but important and interesting sight: the Hangsman’s or the Executioner’s well (Rabljev vodnjak). It’s a narrow, stone walled cave on the Castell Hill, trough it one of the many of the hill springs is running and consequently disappearing beneath the city dwellings. At the end of this alley, in the lonely small garden house, sometimes between the 1782 and 1818, the city Executioner lived.  No one wanted to be his neighbour, and no one wanted to draw water from his well.

😯😯 We recommend that children and more squeamish geocachers stop reading at this point 😁😁

In 16th and 17th century Ljubljana prisoners were exposed to bone crushing on the Rack and Wheel, cutting off (amputation) hands, legs and noses, cropping (removal of a person's ears), dunking and drowning, burning, beheading and hanging. Each Executioner's »service« was individually priced, including torture during interrogation.

This is how the Executioner's invoice to the nobility looked like:

Prepared in 1726 by executioner Franc Jožef Hoffsteter
