Sunflowers have been grown in North Otago since 1974 by a local company Topflite. During mid and late summer large paddock are ablaze of bright yellow blooms and many locals and visitors come to view and take photos.
The crop is grown in a different location each year. In 2017 large fields of sunflower seeds were planted alongside the Weston Ngapara Rd just west of the lime works .
