Longue de 46km, La Selle, prend sa source à Molain dans l’Aisne, à 120 mètres d’altitude et se jette dans l’Escaut à Denain . Elle traverse 11 communes du Cambrésis : Saint Souplet, Saint Benin, Le Cateau-Cambrésis, Montay, Neuvilly, Briastre, Solesmes ; Saint-Python, Haussy, Montrécourt et Saulzoir.
Saint-Python a possédé un moulin à blé qui enjambait la Selle et qui abrita ensuite le tissage Leclercq-Dupire. L’activité du tissage était alors florissante. Puis l’usine fut décentralisée et le moulin fut rasé en 1996.
