When I was four and my sister was two, we combined our Christmas lists.
My sister wanted three Slinky’s to race down our two steps. I wasn’t sure I could zero in on the best sport to start them from. I tried my friend Jeff’s over eight times before Christmas to show dad we knew how to do this but was only lucky enough to get that bugger to go down the steps one time. Better than zero I thought.
We also (ok, mostly me, she didn’t talk much) wanted a set of army men. They came in sets of eight but only seven had guns. The individual without the gun had a radio and he was the coolest.
That Christmas, my sister only had a few teeth and I think she wanted Dominos so she could chew on them. My favorite domino was blank on half with five dots on the other half. That’s cool as I’d be turning that old next year.
The other game on our Christmas list that year was scrabble as it was pretty popular. Scrabble gave you seven tiles to try to make words from during your turn. I was good at adding one letter to make longer words at Jenny’s but could never understand the blank tiles. My mom told me they were worth zero points and could be used as any letter. Got it! I told mom that I really wanted the game so I could start making three letter words.
