This cache is one of 5 caches located at Nosterfield Nature Reserve.
Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve is a hidden gem in the North Yorkshire countryside near the villages of West Tanfield and Nosterfield. It is managed by the Lower Ure Conservation Trust. It was designated as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) in 1993 and is known for its rich variety of wildlife including birds, butterflies and insects. The Nature Reserve is free to visit and is open 24 hours a day, except for the Bird Hides which have seasonal opening hours. The main Visitor Centre provides boards with information about the history and wildlife on the reserve. All the caches have been approved by the owners and all the caches are placed around the reserve (none are in the Bird Hides). All caches are accessible from the footpaths which are wheelchair and buggy friendly but the caches themselves may need some help in retreiving. There is free parking on site next to the main Visitor Centre. The co-ordinates for the parking are shown below.
There are no toilets or refreshments available on site but these can be found in the nearby villages of West Tanfield and Nosterfield (pubs and shops). From this cache, the village of Nosterfield is only 350 metres away (it is signposted). Also from this point, there is a path down to another bird hide which provides a different perspective on the Nature Reserve. Please note, however, that dogs are NOT ALLOWED on this particular path and bird hide.
As this is a micro cache, please bring your own pen and some tweezers for extracting the log.
