Geocache Description:

Raccoons

Masked, ring-tailed bandits
prowling neighborhoods by night
eat worms, nuts, cat food

Easily recognized due to their “masked” face and “ringed” tail. Their front paws are very nibble and are used to grab and hold food and for climbing. They are “nocturnal” meaning they tend to be more active at night. They are quite intelligent and can adapt to live in forests and also urban neighborhoods. They are omnivores – they eat plants and small animals. In urban areas they easily find dog and cat food left outside. This opportunistic combination makes some homeowners think of them as pests.

Females can give birth to 2-5 “kits”.
In the wild, raccoons typically live only 3 to 5 years.
Body length: 16” - 28”
Weight: 8 lbs - 20 lbs
