The Pharaoh's Tomb Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache Creature: Very reluctantly, I've decided to archive this geocache.

I was in the area today and I noticed that the container wasn't attached to the wall and secured with a padlock as it should be. Instead, it was just sitting on the ground for all and sundry to access (although miraculously the contents were still intact).
Over the years, I've had to maintain it on a fairly frequent basis including a complete renovation job a couple of years back. The location is the wrong side of the island for me so it's a real pain when maintenance is required. Truly, I've only kept it going as long as I have because I think it's a great cache on several different levels. And with 101 favourite points, I'd say others tend to agree.

For the benefit of the curious, the mystery location for this cache was Les Quennevais precinct where it had been attached around the back of the old surf shop (now empty premises) for the last nine years. The yellow pyramid shown in the picture on the cache page is roof of the building.

For now, The Pharaoh's Curse (GC6ZPCR) is still out there. If you haven't found it yet and want to do so before it too get's archived you'll find it at N49 14.720 W002 05.900. The bonus clue that you get for reading this is 'EGYPT'

Geocache Description:

Take note: the posted co-ordinates are not those of the cache (but if you like sand dunes and you go here instead you won't be disappointed).

In 1922 the English archaeologist and Egyptologist, Howard Carter discovered the tomb and final resting place of "The Boy King" Tutankhamun. When he first broke open the sealed doorway and held a candle up to the tiny hole that he created and peered inside Carter was asked "Can you see anything?"

His reply: "Yes, wonderful things!"

However, due to the meticulous cataloguing of the finds in the antechamber it would be almost three more months until Carter could break open a second sealed doorway that this time led to Tutankhamun's burial chamber where he got his first glimpse of The Boy King's sarcophagus.

Shortly after Tutankhamun's final resting place had been disturbed a number of the tombs visitors died under some very mysterious circumstances, the first and most notable of these being Lord Carnavon, the financier of Carter's excavations in the Valley of the Kings. This sparked rumours of there being a curse of the pharaoh which would affect anyone who had defiled the Ancient Egyptian king's tomb, however, it would not be until 1939 (some 16 years later) that Howard Carter himself died of natural causes.

As remarkable as it may seem, something similar to Howard Carter’s famous discovery almost 100 years ago was recently made in Jersey at the photographed location. (See Gallery GC6ZG2F - Pyramid)

If you know where it is, go there yourself and see what you can find. If you do not know where the pharaoh lays you’ll have to decipher these Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics instead to track down his final resting place and unlock his sealed tomb. (See Gallery GC6ZG2F - Hieroglyphics)

A prize awaits the FTF. Good Luck!

Please note: If you disturb the pharaoh from his eternal sleep, the pharaoh’s curse will be yours to bear. You have been warned!
