Geocache Description:

2017 Geocaching Colorado Trackable Race: Denver Edition

Join us as we kick off the 4th Annual Geocaching Colorado Trackable Race

GCCO 2017 TB Race Logo

  • When: 2:45PM-4:45PM on February 18th, 2017

  • Where: CPN Master Association Event Hall @ Castle Pines Library, 360 Village Square Lane, Castle Pines, CO 80108

  • Why: To officially kick off the 2017 GCCO Trackable Race - Bring your bugs!

This event is one of 5 Synchronized events to kick off GCCO's 2017 race! Check out the other events at the links below:

Of course, you don't have to participate in the race to attend. There will be many TBs there, so this is an excellent opportunity to hang out, and discover a LOT of bugs and coins! Or, just drop by to say hi and check the place out!

Log from 2015

We will be updating this page as the event gets closer - check here for those important updates!

The Race Details

How to Enter:

  1. Make sure your trackable(s) is(are) activated BEFORE the event.
  2. Bring a Trackable with 0 miles traveled to one of these events! Heck, bring a pile of trackables if you wish! There is no limit on how many racers you can enter into the race, just so long as they start at the event with 0 miles.
  3. Have the 'TBXXXXX' number to with you at the event. We will have a place for you to write it down, and officially add it to the list of competitors. You will receive a notice on your TB page to confirm official entry.
IMPORTANT: This is NOT the number engraved on the bug/tag/coin - it is the number on the geocaching.com page that starts with TB. Animjason will make sure it is added if you only have the TB code.  See the example below:
    This is the number
  4. Trade TBs at the event! It's a great place to drop off and pick up trackables to keep them on the move!
  5. Within a week after the event (should give us enough time to compile the list of bugs!), check The Official GCCO TB Race Site - this site will update almost daily, so you can see how your bug is doing against the competition!

Race Rules:

  1. Every Racer must be trackable on Geocaching.com
  2. Every racer must start with 0 miles at the event.
  3. The Trackable Owner shouldn't hang on to the racer. If you don't get your bug picked up by someone at the event, the host, animjason, will make sure it is moved along.
  4. This will be a 'Longest Jump for total distance' Race. That means we are looking for the bug that racks up the highest mileage before the race ends with one twist: We only consider the 'placed' or 'visit' log with the longest distance from each cacher. This prevents higher mileage caused by cachers keeping Racers, and dipping them in every cache causing higher mileage (this sounds complicated, but it is automatically computed).
  5. The race lasts for 6 months, so it will end August 18th, 2017!
  6. That's it! Have fun, and remember: it's just a game!

Optional (but recommended) - print off one of these sweet tags and add it to your racer! It will let people know that this trackable MEANS BUSINESS! Click the photo below to be taken to the sheet:

Event Timeline:

We are going to try to stick with the following timeline - Check back for updates!

2:45-3:30: Enter your bug(s) into the race, if you wish! Simply drop off your bug(s) in the racer's starting grid, write the TBXXXX number on the signup sheet, and then mingle and taunt the other racers! This is also a good time for meeting and greeting, a chat with the host to find out how to get entered into the various drawings, etc.
3:30-3:45: Drawings! We will be giving away some goodies at the event. Get your SWAG on!
3:45: Gold Coin Giveaway! Each event will draw a winner for the coveted GCCO Gold Coin. Remember, these gold editions are rare, as they can ONLY be won at events - you cannot buy them!
Any remaining time: This would be a great time to discover the many racers or pick up trackables to move them along in the race, mingle with cachers, etc. Any Competing Trackables that are NOT picked up by the end of the event will be picked up and moved by animjason.

Of course, you do not need to be participating in the race to attend one of these events. This event is a good chance to meet all kinds of other geocachers. Mingle and learn tips and tricks, get hints on that one cache that has had you stumped for months, or share your own geocaching knowledge with others!

Come one and all! Race Fans, Competitors, and folks who just enjoy a good old fashioned get together!
