Here you will find the Heart Morass, a restoration project run by a partnership between Field and Game Australia, BugBlitz Trust, Hugh DT Williamson Foundation, Watermark Inc. and West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.
The restoration project started in 2007 when Field and Game Australia’s Wetland Environmental Taskforce Public Fund (WET Trust) invested over $1.1 million to purchase 750 hectares of the Heart Morass wetland. After the purchase of other adjoining properties, the wetlands now encompass 1,800ha. The wetlands were highly degraded due to a combination of factors including a lack of natural flooding, excessive drainage, salinity and intense grazing. The partnership between these organisations has helped restore these wetlands.
Access to the Heart Morass is limited, see the information sign posted by the gate for more information. Please do not enter the property, but I do recommend checking out the BugBlitz sign painted by school children during school trips to the Morass just inside the gate.
There are also camping spots along this section of the Latrobe River.
