Götz János Legenda című szobrának története:
1970 – Götz János megalkotta az acélvázra erősített rézlemez lovaskompozíciót, a Legendát.
1971 – Götz János a Legenda köztéri változatát azonban már nem tudta megvalósítani, az év végén elhunyt.
1973 – Zalaegerszeg városa megvásárolta a szobrot, de felállítására csak 26 év múlva került sor.
1999 – Zalaegerszegen nagy sikerű kiállításon mutatták be a szobrot, majd még ebben az évben felállításra került a Zalaegerszeg-Csácsbozsoki Izsák Imre Iskolában.
1999-2001 között – Az 1999-es kiállítás után egyértelműen megfogalmazódott a gondolat: módot kell találni a szobor köztéren való elhelyezésére. A szobor bronzba öntésének és köztéren való felállításának tervét a művész özvegye, Jándi Zsuzsanna festőművész nagy örömmel fogadta. “A Legenda nem szűk térbe való, sokkal nagyobb az ereje annál” – mondta. A szobor vázlatát újraalkotta és az öntés utáni befejező műveleteket végezte Farkas Ferenc bocföldei szobrászművész. A bronzöntés Galambos Sándor szentendrei bronzöntő mester keze munkáját dicséri. A szobor elkészítését, felállítását – minisztériumi támogatás mellett – Zalaegerszeg városának áldozatkészsége is elősegítette.
2001 – Götz János halálának 30. évfordulóján a bronz Legendát Zalaegerszeg Kertvárosában felállították. A szobrot Götz Johanna szobrászművész, Götz János lánya avatta fel.
Széles völgy nyílik a magaslat előtt, melyen a szobor áll. A fergeteges lendületű lovas körül szabad a tér. A szobor környékének igényes kialakításához még az is hozzátartozik, hogy a völgyben a rozsdás buszvárót üvegfalúra cserélték, mely belesimul környezetébe, így nincs akadálya a lovas – és a képzelet – szárnyalásának.
Egyszerű, kb. két és fél méteres oszlopon áll a szobor.
The history of the statue ‘Legend’ made by János Götz:
1970 – János Götz created the equestrian composition made of copper plates attached onto a steel frame, the ‘Legend’.
1971 – János Götz was however unable to fabricate the public square version of the Legend due to his decease at the end of the year.
1973 – The city Zalaegerszeg bought the statue, but it was set up only 26 years later.
1999 – The statue was displayed on a highly acclaimed exhibition in Zalaegerszeg, and in this year it was set up in the School Imre Izsák in Zalaegerszeg-Csácsbozsok.
Between 1999 and 2001 – After the exhibition in 1999 the idea was formulated clearly: a way has to be found to install the sculpture in public spaces. The artist's widow, painter Zsuzsanna Jándi welcomed the idea of casting the statue in bronze and setting it up in a public place. ‘The Legend is not suitable for closed spaces, it has much more strength than that.’ – she said. The statue’s outline was reinvented and the finishing operations were conducted by sculptor Ferenc Farkas from Bocfölde. The bronze casting is the handiwork of the bronze master Sándor Galambos from Szentendre. The statue was completed and installed thanks to – besides the support of the Ministry – the generosity of the city Zalaegerszeg as well.
2001 – At the 30th anniversary of János Götz’s death the bronze ‘Legend’ was set up in the garden city of Zalaegerszeg (Kertváros). The statue was inaugurated by the daughter of sculptor János Götz, Johanna Götz.
The valley opens wide in front of the hill which the statue stands on. The square is free around energetic rider. It enhances the sophisticated installation of the statue that the rusty bus station was changed to a glass-walled waiting room, which blends into the environment, so the soaring of the rider – and the imagination – is not obstructed. The statue stands on a simple, approx. 2,5 meters high column.
