Flamingo Butt Traditional Cache

This Geocache is in hidden near Zeekoevlei, a large fresh water dam near the Strandfontein Sewer works.  But do not let that put you off!  It is definitely worth a visit, you'll know why when you see it.  It may be a good idea to bring your binoculars. Dogs must be kept on a leash.

The geocache Zeekoevlei GC5EWW2 has amazing information about this area, so I am not going into too much detail.

I hid this geocache here, because the bird life in this specific area always amazes me.  It is so unexpectedly beautiful, especially as the smell coming from this area when driving here is not one that encourages appetite and the Zeekoevlei water has an unwholesome algae green look during the summer months.  This body of water seems to be a water bird haven though and sometimes when you get here, all you can see are flamingo butts, because they are feeding off the bottom and in the food rich water.

To get to the entrance of Zeekoevlei, go south on Strandfontein road/M17 and take the Dollarbird Rd turnoff by the KFC and Pelican Park shopping center. At the roundabout, take the second exit and continue straight on to the entrance gate.  Entrance is free and it is open from 07h30-19h30 in summer and 07h30-18h00 in winter.  You may see rowers, sailboats and kite surfers out on the dam as many clubs are situated on the banks of the Vlei.
