Geocache Description:

The towns origins date back to 560AD when it was founded by St colmcille (521-567). Ledgend has it that the Saint blessed this well giving the town it's name Sord being the Irish for "clear" or "pure". The water from the well is said to have great healing powers and the locals used to come and collect small amounts and bless their homes with it.

This is a quick cache and dash but do take a look at this historical well while here it's basicly what the town was founded on. While here if you look up the road heading away from the main street you will see a beautiful Gothic style church with a Round tower and castle like bellfry only a few feet apart in the same grounds. There is another cache beside them and it's well worth a look while your so close. The High King of Ireland Brian Brou was brought to that very spot hours after he was killed at the battle of clontarf in 1014. His body was waked by the monks before continuing to Armagh where he was buried.
