Geocache Description:

A small cache anchored to a shrub with tape near the track to B2 in West Wind Recreation Reserve. Do not pull out container. Unscrew the lid and remove the plastic bag.

West Wind Recreation Area was set up for the public to get close to the huge wind turbines spread out on the hills above Makara. There are also stunning views out over Cook Strait and the South Island. There are a series of walking and cycling tracks in this area. See the description on the West Wind cache (GC3ACWX) for more details about the park. Please note the following Restrictions:

All tracks within the West Wind Recreation Area are dual use, and have been designed with mountain bikes in mind – there are small humps and banked curves along the track, and it is recommended that riders take the track in a clockwise fashion. Please be considerate of walkers and keep to a reasonable speed, as there are also stiles plus gates to negotiate.

Likewise walkers need to remain aware that mountain bikers use this area.

You will also need to leave your dog at home for this excursion.

MAKE SURE, however, that you visit within the open hours and dates of the park, otherwise the gates will be locked:

Open from 9am – 6pm in the summer (1 October to 31 March) Open from 9am – 4pm during winter (1 April to 31 July) ...and completely closed during lambing season, which spans 1 August to 30 September.

No finds will be accepted outside the permitted hours and dates.
