Canal Bridge Traditional Cache

Fair weather cache off a dirt road and will get muddy with minimal moisture. The cache is located on the bridge which provides access to the pastures on the north. You will not have to cross fences. Park on the roadside as the bridge is not always easy to drive up on. Highly recommended to visit near sunset.

The canal's water originates from Republican River from Colorado. The irrigation season usually runs from June - September. The river water is diverted near Guide Rock, Nebraska through canal systems it is stored in Lovewell Reservoir in Jewell County then released downstream. Kansas Bostwick Irrigation District No.2 (KBID) is a 42,500 acre surface water irrigation district serving agricultural lands in Jewell County and Republic County in North Central Kansas and is headquartered in the town of Courtland.  The District is made up of 100 miles of main canals and an additional 150 miles of lateral canals and pipelines. Kansas Bostwick was organized and incorporated in 1948. Over half of the irrigated acres in the district are under pivot increasing water efficiency versus pipe and tubes.
