Geocache Description:

The cache is placed on the road reserve travelling East from Bruthen, make a left hand turn into Deadhorse Creek Track. Parking is available just off the road. Cache is a small container with log book pen and swaps

Our Dad works for a local Company that operates a quarry near here. The quarry provides rock for road construction works. The name for our cache came from the quarry rock and the forest track name nearby Deadhorse Creek, which is an unlikely name for a forestry track however the following extract from the Tambo and Omeo Chronicle on the 17 June 1882 reads as follows - 'A warden of Gippsland reports that during last month a discovery of tin ore is said to have been made in one of the sources of Dead Horse Creek, on the road from Bruthen to Buchan.... The discovery is likely to lead to other rich finds in the neighbourhood. The samples of ore exhibited are very rich in pure metal.' Today there is no evidence remaining of any ore deposits in Dead Horse Creek, but perhaps the quarry is the other rich find in the neighbourhood. *Congratulations to sqau for being FTF with aqau.*
