Geocache Description:

I recommend completing this series during summer, as when the river is high this series could be dangerous. Be prepared to get wet, there is no way around it. Placed these caches with my 6 year old granddaughter so if she can do it so can you :). When placed the caches contained water toys for the children to enjoy. The river series starts at the boys scout camp and finishes near the guides camp. You can leave a car each end or walk back up the river like us.

Take an adventure and collect some kai. Along the way you can catch some eels, harvest watercress, mint, parsley and sage. During duck shooting season get some ducks. Catch some fish and chill your drinks in the river.

Weka Point is a Scout campsite situated in Rissington, Hawkes Bay, 20 minutes out of Napier. It is surrounded by a horseshoe bend of the Mangaone river. There are a number of walks and geocaches in the area. Weka Point is possibly the second oldest scout camp outside England and certainly one of the older in New Zealand. The campsite is the property of the Scout Association of New Zealand and consists of 6.5 hectares of land, which was gifted to the scouting movement in 1949 by Mrs G Absolom of Omatua.

Caches are placed above river level at full flood, easiest access is from the river at closest cord points. Don’t expect a walk in the park, goat tracks and hills. Bugs prickles and blackberries as well. Caches should be easy finds, the experience I hope you enjoy is the beauty of walking through the river, swimming with the eels and taking in the peace and quiet.
