Were you (or are you) stumped by science at school? Hopefully everyone who solves these puzzles will learn as much as we have by making them. All of the puzzles involve concepts from various fields of science or applied science/technology, some more obvious than others.
Find our rocket please!
Our rocket has a total mass of 194.5g, and has a rocket motor that will produce 5.000N of thrust.
It was launched vertically from the published coordinates - the motor fired for 7.9s.
At its apogee, the parachute instantly deployed, and it descended back to the ground with an average vertical velocity of 6m/s.
During the descent, the wind was blowing from a bearing of 339.5° at a speed of 20 knots, and caused the rocket to drift off course....
Assumptions:
acceleration due to gravity = 9.81m/s/s
ignore air resistance (apart from parachute descent!)
the mass of the rocket does not change as the fuel burns
rocket thrust starts and stops instantaneously
ignore effect of wind until descent begins (this rocket has a tiny gyro!)
(The geochecker will signal success if you get within 5m of GZ to take into account minor variations in calculations, the coordinates will be displayed at that stage)
