Tzinny, Twigwig and I (not pictured) were able to FTF a nearby cache but in so doing we deprived SafariBabe of a January FTF. Tzinny suggested we could quickly hide a cache, I happened to have one with me, and Twigwig helped pick the location. So we placed one near the lake, but it was January and a bit frozen. The cache published just in time for SafariBabe to make that FTF run.
Winters in Chicago can be downright freezing cold, but it does eventually warm up in the summer. If you can't wait for the warmer weather before taking a dip in the lake you can always sign up for the Polar Plunge.
BTW, They don't actually do the Polar Plunge at this location. The Polar Plunge usually happens about 2 miles north at North Ave Beach in March as a fundraiser benefit for the Special Olympics.
The large sailing vessel east of the cache, Abegweit, is permanently moored at the DuSable Harbor and owned and operated as a clubhouse by the Columbia Yacht Club of Chicago. It is named after the Mi'kmaq Nation's name for Prince Edward Island, Canada, Epekwit'k or Abegweit, meaning "cradled (or cradle) on the waves." The vessel was in service from 1947 until 1982.
