Toland Park Picture "Puzzle" (kinda) Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: And gerfmeister was right; the entire north third of the park seems to have burned in the Thomas Fire, this cache included. There is on-going work somewhere along the "loop" road, but I could not get in to see what was going on. There is no point in trying to replace this, right now, and as it might be months before the area is open, archiving this is the way to go. Ah, well...

Geocache Description:

OK, so the title says "puzzle" but the cache type is multicache. It's a little of both, but it has four steps, and the three photos (one per step) help you get to where you need to be to use your GPR, so we think that multicache fits this better

Follow these simple steps to get to where you need to be. There is nothing at the given coordinates; they are just a place to start. This cache replaces an archived cache of ours, and is less than 100 feet from that older cache, so you might be able to "brute force" this, but the steps are so simple, why bother?

1) From the given coordinates, go northeasterly on a CA State Highway the sum of which digits equals '9'.

2) After passing through a signal-controlled intersection with two gasoline stations on diagonally-opposite corners, continue on the same California State Highway. A little under a mile past the intersection you should see the building in the picture below. It will be on the left. Continue on the highway; there is no need to stop.

3) Another half-mile or so along the same highway, you should see the building in picture #2, on the right. You will need to make a left-hand turn immediately after this building, onto a paved road leading to a County Sanitary Facility. If you miss this turn, continue on the highway to a left-hand turn a half-mile farther easterly, and make a safe U-turn there.

4) Head up the road, and uphill, until you see the scene in picture #3. You can turn in here and park on the pavement, but don't block the swing gate. If you prefer, you can go back to an entrance into this area, and drive on paved roads, if that entrance is open.

5) Either way you choose, you must now go to the swing gate that bars entry for vehicles; this is a very short walk from the mailbox in #3. Find the support post that is furthest southerly. Project a waypoint 73 meters away, at a bearing of 283 degrees. Walk to this spot (it is less than a tenth of a mile away), along paved and dirt paths, and look for a SPOR under a small bush, about three meters uphill from a tree-tobacco plant. The cache is a small Sistema container, partially camoed.

Have fun!
