When heading east, it is all downhill from here to the head of the Hastings Valley.
I regularly drive this stretch of road and it is at this point that I select a lower gear in my work geotruck for the run down the mountain.
A number of years ago just to the east of this point about 150 mtrs, a Low Loader missed the left hander and went bush. You can still see the scars on the tree that it deflected off. Luckily the driver survived with some injuries. He was returning to the coast after unloading some machinery.
