Travel this mile road (109 West) south to the escarpment of the Riding Mountain National Park and you will now find Dauphin Bible Camp. This road used to be Durston Road and lead to Durston Park but in 1947 the Canadian Sunday School Mission was brought along side and the park became Dauphin Bible Camp. With camp expansion and the development of a new kitchen and dining hall around 2012, the camp purchased the remaining acreage of the ¼ section and what had been called Durston Hill now became part of the camp property.

To better utilize the land and make the camp more of a four-season ministry, tree clearing and grading of the toboggan hill was done and a longer “run off” area developed. With the new kitchen, a parking area was established close to the top of the hill and a storage building with fire pit was built making the area safer for people to come and use the tobogganing hill. As funds became available, there were sliding tubes purchased and the area was opened for tubing once sufficient snow had accumulated. Due to insurance guidelines, the hill is now exclusively used for the camp’s approved tubes only. See the camp’s website for other guidelines and hours of operation. With the purchase of a snowmobile for grooming the hill, it was now possible to set up some snowshoe and cross-country ski trails. Each year the camp sponsors “Family Fun Days” which focuses it’s activities around winter use of the area in co-operation with the City of Dauphin’s “Winter Life” program.

The Canadian Sunday School Mission has since been renamed One Hope Canada with its main Provincial and National offices located in Winnipeg.
