Geocache Description:

Be a sly geocacher! This geocache, for which a tweezers may be helpful, is on the north side of Business 83 and somewhat west of Los Ebanos Road in Mission, Texas. Business 83 is busy; do not park there. Find the name of the street the geocache is next to. Look at the sign on the post where the geocache is. With some imagination, can you find Three Cheers and a Surveyor? Below is familiar information about The Father of Our Country. GEORGE WASHINGTON was born Feb. 22, 1732, at Pope's Creek, Westmoreland County, Virginia, British America, and died on Dec. 14, 1799, age 67, at Mount Vernon in Virginia, USA. He was a surveyor, gentleman planter, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and served as President of the Convention in Philadelphia that drafted the Constitution of the United States. THE FIRST PRESIDENT of the United States served two terms, April 30, 1789, to March 4, 1797. He established many precedents that are still in use today, such as the cabinet system, the inaugural address and the title Mr. President. Washington's birthday was first celebrated as a holiday in Washington in 1880 and then made a Federal Holiday in 1885. In 1971 the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February and is also referred to as Presidents' Day to celebrate all presidents. This year of 2017 it is on Monday, February 20th. WHEN GEORGE was young he frequently visited his half brother Lawrence who had built a new house at Mount Vernon. The teenager had become interested in the frontier and in learning to become a surveyor. At one of those visits Lord Fairfax was also there. Fairfax happened to be Virginia's largest property owner of more than five million acres located in the northern part of the state and included much of the Shenandoah Valley. He was planning an expedition to survey his land and George at age 16 was invited to join. In March 1748, they set out for a one month expedition. Washington was appointed official surveyor for Culpeper County in July 1749. He was well paid and saved his money so that by 1752 he owned 2,300 acres. *****************************************************************
