Seneca Trails Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NJ Admin: Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like both the cache and the cache owner have been missing for some time now. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
NJ Admin

Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH AN AMMO CONTAINER AS WELL AS A NEW LOG BOOK AND TRINKETS ON 5 / 22 / 2002. Nice scenic hike from the parking area. Bring a camera or your dog for the day.

People saavy to the area will know to park elsewhere for a shorter hike but they'd be missing out on a great walk across the Genessee River Walkway. Park free at the Maplewood Park parking lot (N. 43 degrees 11.696 W. 77 degrees 37.301) and walk across the road to the Walkway to make this about 1 1/4 miles as the crow flies. Once across, keep the river to your left and follow the walking trail all the way back past the Seneca Park Zoo and old Trout Lake. The area is generally easy walking and well traveled by other hikers and bikers. Lots of people bring their kids and dogs here and you can visit the zoo for a nominal fee (about 4-5 dollars per person) or use the various free picnic areas or kiddie playgrounds. People may even be fishing in the "lake". Lots of wildlife here, such as chipmunks, woodpeckers, and even deer.

The cache is hidden in a small red metal lunchbox under a fallen tree trunk. Inside you'll find lots of small trinkets, like a souvenir Coca-Cola pocket knife, sunglasses, hockey cards, and more!

Once you find the cache, don't stop there! Follow the trail further north and enjoy the scenery! There are stairs and walkways down to the river and even a small waterfall if you go far enough back.

Other than the walk, the location and terrain is easy enough for anyone.

This is my first cache.. enjoy! July 3rd: This cache was checked just last week and was still in the same spot. After you enjoy this adventure be sure to also check out another fun one not far away. Just click this link called the Night Stalker for more information.
