Sometimes referred to as the Princeps mathematicorum (Latin, "the foremost of mathematicians") and "greatest mathematician since antiquity," Gauss is ranked as one of history's most influential mathematicians.
Gauss was a child prodigy. A story relates that, when he was seven or eight, he figured out how to add up all the numbers from 1 to 100 within seconds. He succeeded not by brute mental force (adding each number individually) but through the insight that the sum of the numbers 1-100 is also the sum of 50 pairs of numbers each adding up to 101. (The answer is 5,050 if you want to know.)
Your task is to replicate this feat…but with a smaller number. If you know the formula, it’ll take seconds…if not, well…break out your calculator or pencil and paper and start adding!
