Geocache Description:

Great Celebrity Purge of 2016

The year 2016 will be forever remembered in infamy to many people, as it claimed the lives of many celebrities. And while every year claims its share of celebrities, 2016 seemed especially cruel and callous, as one after another after another was taken from us.

This series of geocaches tries to honor those who were taken during the year by placing caches in memoriam and on the anniversary of their passing.

Maurice White

Maurice "Moe" White (19 December 1941 – 4 February 2016) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, arranger and bandleader. He was the founder of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, and the older brother of current Earth, Wind & Fire member Verdine White, and former member Fred White. He served as the band's main songwriter and record producer, and was co-lead singer along with Philip Bailey. He won seven Grammys, and was nominated for a total of twenty Grammys. White was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as a member of Earth, Wind & Fire, and was also inducted individually into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Also known by his nickname "Reece", he worked with several famous recording artists, including Deniece Williams, the Emotions, Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond. White was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the late 1980s, which led him eventually to stop touring with Earth, Wind & Fire in 1994. He retained executive control of the band, and remained active in the music business.

White died in his sleep from the effects of Parkinson's disease at his home in Los Angeles, California, on the morning of February 4, 2016, at the age of 74.

(To the tune of September)

Do you remember geo
caching from June to September?
Getting all of the finds as a member
With your premium status today

Our phones were ringing
Except GPSrs that were pinging
As we searched in the night
Remember how the caches were placed to stay

Eff Tee Eff - Say do you remember
Dee Enn Eff - Searching for that treasure
Ell Pee Cee - With your favorite tool of the trade!

My thoughts are with you
As you decode the hint for a clue
Though it won't help you much
Remember that it's only a 2 difficulty

In December we found
The cache we DNF'd in September
Even if it's thrown down
Remember someone placed it with love that way

Oh Em Gee - Logging from their armchair!
Cee Aey Are - It's usually how you get there
Aey Ell Are - No longer allowed, you see

Bah de ah - Say do you remember
Bah de ah - Caching in September
Bah de ah - Golden dreams were shiny days

(With my apologies to Maurice White and all of Earth, Wind, and FIre...)
