Geocache Description:

There are several ways to access this cache. I noticed a 4x4 only road that could get you closer, however, the last stretch to get to the cache you will need to hike and its steep. The instructions and ways points is the route I took as a part of a hike with the South Sierra Hiking group and it will get you to the correct location. To get to the parking area you will need to travel a bit on a gravel road which should be fine for most vehicles. The hike starts from the parking area and follows up a creek bed though some a very interesting canyon. You will see some old mine shafts, lava rock, and some spectacular rock faces along the way. Round trip the hike is around 11 miles with just less than 1000 feet of elevation gain. The last little stretch will take you up a hill with an amazing view. The hike leader called it the Red Butte View. The last stretch will be steep and slippery with the lose gravel. Use caution on this part, especially coming down. Be prepared with plenty of water, especially if you attempt this during the summer. I recommend some food or snacks that can be enjoyed after reaching the viewpoint. I placed a plastic duct taped peanut jar under a rock and covered it with rocks. I also stacked a rock pile at the GZ to narrow the search. The cache is just below the rock pile.
