6. Central Dry Dock
History
The Hull Central Dry Dock was opened in 1843 and was the largest of Hull's dry docks at the time. It closed in 1992 and is now a grade 2 listed structure. From 1993 it played host to the Manxman floating nightclub, however, the dock was once again left empty in 1997 following a fire on the boat. Since then the dock has lay derelict and slowly silting up. A number of regeneration plans came and went. The most ambitious of these was a biodome style attraction named "The River", which would be a sister attraction to The Deep on the opposite bank
Finally, in 2013, the Wykeland development group announced plans to redevelop the Dry Dock area as part of the wider Fruit Market regeneration. This included new plans to transform the old dry dock in to a new outdoor amphitheatre, overlooked by bold new office developments
2017
The dock is the only new venue to be constructed for the start of Hull's year of culture in 2017. It has already played host to The Humber Street Sesh and Freedom Festival since opening in August 2016
