Mynyddbach Chapel is the oldest Independent Chapel in Swansea when it was first built the Chapel was at the centre of the nonconformist movement in Wales. Due to the persecution of the nonconformists it had to be built at least five miles outside the town boundaries of Swansea.

Daniel James the writer of Calon Lân in 1890s was brought up in a cottage next to the Chapel and attended with his Parents, it is sung to a tune by John Hughes. The song is a hymn, and it has become associated with Welsh rugby union, being sung before almost every Test match involving the Welsh National Team.
Daniel James died on the 16th March 1920 and is buried with his first wife Ann and his son William at Mynyddbach Chapel Cemetary.
u
In 2011 the Chapel was being threatened with demolition when a group of local people, together with the remaining members and trustees of the Chapel under the leadership of Reverend Grenville Fisher, a Congregational Minister, established the Mynyddbach Chapel Project.
